Babies and Santa always a good combination!!!!!

We arrived at save-on-foods in the community of Walden at 8:30 am. Chris the grocery manager was anxiously waiting for us. He had no idea the trailer was so damn gorgeous. Chris situated the trailer in a safe but very visible area in front of the main entrance. You could see us from McLeod Trail. We were extremely excited It was quite chilly standing in the shaded area but at least we were able to go in and out of the store throughout the day to warm up. Our first 2 volunteers Cheyenne and Colleen were steady through out the morning with food donations but once Santa arrived then the frenzie started. Between taking donations, handing out candy canes and pictures with Santa there was no time to think of the chilly air. Thank goodness Randy arrived for his shift on time and was able to do some of the heavy lifting for us. We had a young boy and his Dad wheel their cart loaded with groceries out of the store. The young boy grabbed a bag out of the cart and just as we were reaching for it he said “No, this is ours what is left in the cart is for you” The generosity never gets old. Just as we were wrapping up for the day Chris the grocery manager came out and told us all the baby food in the lobby belonged to us. We could not believe this as there must have been a full pallet sitting in the lobby and how could they possibly know we are all about baby food. Unbelievable !!! we gladly handbombed the entire skid into the trailer. We left very tired, cold and sore but the smile on our faces well……we are still smiling. !!!!!

Okotok's Holiday Light Up!

Chilly November night in Okotoks Again the Okotoks Holiday Light Up committee invited 18 Wheels of Christmas to be a part of their street festival. This is our 4th year in Okotoks and it never gets tiring it only gets better and better. This year the 18 Wheels trailer was pulled by Mark Rosenau and his unit 1015 and what an entrance they made. This was the inaugural event with our new look for the trailer wrap (thank you Rosenau Graphics, Cypress Stake and Lath) our new lights courtesy of Grote and installation by Ron Lewin and his crew. Once the trailer was parked, the doors opened and everything set up to go the people started flocking to us. We had sold over $700.00 in save-on-food hampers, collected more than 10 food bank boxes (2 vans were needed to deliver them to the food bank) and $1,900.00 in cash donations all of which was given to the Okotoks Food Bank before we left. Parts of this community along with High River were devastated by the June flooding we found it absolutely amazing to have this level of generosity from the residents of Okotoks. No wonder the ice-sculpture has an angel as part of the display. If the pictures look a little fuzzy, we did a whole lot of shivering down there but it was all worth it !!
